Nidhal Yahyaoui

Chaouiya

Nidhal Yahyaoui offers us a new journey, a new adventure and a new experience, in a preview of this new project for Dream City. The new destination is the Chaoui music from the North-West of Tunisia. The electric guitar replaces the Gasba (major instrument of this repertoire) and suggests a new sonority to the Chaoui music. An experimental adventure in Tunisian Berber music inspired by Tuareg music.

Nidhal Yahyaoui (Tunis)

Nidhal Yahyaoui is a native of the Seliana Region who grew up in the neighborhoods of the Medina in Tunis: these neighborhoods gathering inhabitants from different Tunisian ethnic backgrounds. Exposed since a young age to several traditional musical genres, Nidhal is moved by a desire to carry the banner of the Tunisian music and exporting it, especially beyond our borders.

After his first project, Bargou 08, which explored the salhi repertoire of Seliana and his second project Aphawin Populaire, focusing on mezoued, his third adventure introduces us to Berber music; Chaoui. The challenges are the same: suggesting new sounds and improbable mergers.
